Habitat for Humanity is an organization that builds or improves homes for families in need of decent, affordable housing. Participating families are selected based on several criteria, and work hard to build their own home alongside volunteers.
Do you have some construction skills, and want to volunteer to help? Or even if you have no construction skills, no problem – you still can volunteer!
There are currently home builds going on in Andover, Salisbury, and Wenham, every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Come whenever your schedule allows – check out their build calendar.
To participate, you must be at least 18 years of age, but you do not need construction experience. There are jobs for everyone – all ages and skill levels are welcome. However, you must register for a specific build date and location ahead of time. Register here.
If working on a build site is not for you, then you can consider volunteering at a Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Located in Peabody and Lawrence, the stores sell donated new and gently used appliances, building materials, furniture and home improvement items at reduced prices and profits help fund the home build program. To volunteer at a ReStore, you must register here.
Habitat for Humanity is following all CDC guidelines for COVID protections, including requiring wearing masks at all times, frequent hand cleaning, and social distancing as much as possible. Although these requirements can sometimes be difficult at a build site, you can opt out of any activity with which you are not comfortable.
